NEW RULES AND REGS FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT & OPIOID USE

Please see the rewritten rules and regs for prescribing schedule I and II opioids. All but one suggestion from NPARI was adopted in this latest draft.  Please note that these regs go into effect on January 3, 2017.  They require that for any "practitioner" (includes all non-physician prescribers) to prescribe Schedule II opioids, she/he must complete ER/LA Opioid Alagesic REMS course for long acting opioids (See 3.14) .  This is starting January 15, 2017.

It would be useful to know how many of you need REMS training.

We are working with AANP on having an educational event including REMS training here in RI. In the meantime we will need to begin opioid education, especially in order renew their Controlled Substance license in March. Please go to the following link for free CE from AANP to get started
