STEP 3:

- Draft letter, email, or phone call with the following template (OR feel free to use your own words) :

Dear ____________________:

My name is ______________________ and I am a nurse practitioner practicing here in Rhode Island. I am proposing that the Rhode Island state legislature construct a bill for this legislative session, which would offer income tax credits to clinical physician and nurse practitioner preceptors for the supervision of medical and nurse practitioner students.  Supervising clinical students requires a focus that can add to the health care provider's workload and is largely uncompensated. I am very enthusiastic about discussing the possibility of constructing a bill for this.

The attached legislative statutes from New York and Maryland will give you an idea of the means by which 2 other states have taken on this critical issue in the clinical education of our health care workforce. This type of legislation could be a game-changer for health care provider education programs in the state.  It will contribute to the transformation of the health care workforce while increasing access to care for our most vulnerable citizens.

I look forward to hearing from you.  Please feel free to contact me via ____________

Regards:
