Hi All:  As one of your largely unseen member benefits, NPARI lobbies the legislature every session to protect and enhance your right to practice to the full extent of your license.  We NEED your help.  There are 2 bills this session that will allow us to move forward as we continue to transform the health care workforce in RI.

The first is H5114 that will offer preceptors of NP students a $500. reduction in their state  income taxes.  This is a difficult ask this year with a $500. million deficit in the state budget.  However, the bill and its testimony helps the visibility of NP's as a force to appreciate.  If you could PLEASE send me "talking points" about why you think this is a good bill, I would appreciate it.

Second is H 5155.  This is reintroduced after failing 2 years ago.  It allows PMHNP/CNS to certify persons in need of psychiatric admission.  The ACLU has concerns about this bill.  The Psychiatrists killed it the last time it was introdued.  PLEASE read this bill for problems that seem to mitigate patients' rights.

You can post your comments here or send to me directly at dcoppa@uri.edu
