The Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Rhode Island
Celebrates Nurse Practitioner Week

As newly insured patients seek access to healthcare, it is important that the public be aware that there are more than 192,000 NPs in the United States and over 700 in RI. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) provide increased access to high-quality, cost effective care to patients in all healthcare settings and across the lifespan. NPs are licensed expert clinicians who have masters and doctoral degrees with extensive clinical preparation. NPs provide direct primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services and work as partners with their patients and with other healthcare providers, including physicians. The confidence that patients have in NP delivered healthcare, is evidenced by more that 916 million visits made to NPs every year.

The goal of the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Rhode Island (NPARI) is to increase access to healthcare services to all regardless of health insurance status. National NP week is November 9th-15th and is a time to celebrate these exceptional healthcare providers. This celebration can be used to remind lawmakers of the importance to remove outdated barriers to practice; so that NPs will be allowed to practice to the full extent of their experience and education.

NPARI works in a coalition with other professional nursing groups (i.e., RISNA) to commemorate NP week with their annual meeting to be held November 10th in East Greenwich RI.
