Professor Of Surgery Liver Transplant and HPB Surgeon at NYU Langone Health

Karim J Halazun joined the Emory Liver Transplant program after completing his transplantation fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center, where he also did his general surgery residency and surgical research fellowship. After receiving his medical degree with honors from the University of Leeds, UK, he completed a basic surgical training rotation from 2002-2007 at the Yorkshire School of Surgery. Much of his time was spent at St. James University Hospital, considered the largest and busiest teaching hospital in Europe. Throughout his training he received such research awards as the Hepatobiliary and Transplant Fellow Award of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the Young Investigator Award of the American Transplant Society, and the American Society of Transplantation's Distinguished Fellow Research Award.

Dr. Nancy Reau is currently the Associate Director of Solid Organ Transplantation and Section Chief of Hepatology at Rush University Medical Center. She has over fifteen years of experience in hepatology, gastroenterology, and internal medicine, and specializes in treating a variety of complex liver disease, including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, liver cancer, liver transplant, and viral diseases. Dr. Reau’s research interest is in viral hepatitis, both in drug development as well as utilization. She has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, invited reviews, editorials and on-line programs, as well as several book chapters, and two books. Dr. Reau is currently the vice president of the Board of Directors for the American Liver Foundation’s Illinois Chapter, in addition to c-chairing the National American Liver Foundation’s Medical Advisory Committee. She is also on the advisory board for Medscape and Medivo, and is a member of the steering committee for the hepatitis C special interest group (SIG), the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), and a member of the ACG training committee.
