Position Description

Portland, Maine: We invite TWO experienced Critical Care/Acute Care Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to join the thriving Cardiothoracic Surgery division of Maine’s largest hospital. An ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of critical care experience and an interest in cardiology and/or surgery.

Become part of a successful comprehensive Cardiac Surgery program that manages 1400+ cases annually. You will join a respected team of 6 Cardiac Surgeons & 20 NP/PAs and provide inpatient care for post-op cardiac surgery patients in an adult ICU setting, and occasionally in a step-down/ intermediate care unit. APPs work closely with the Surgeons and the Cardiovascular Critical Care Intensivists, getting a high level of autonomy while providing the highest quality of care. The goal will be for you to attain full privileges to perform bedside procedures independently.

Your schedule will be 3 nights/week (6pm-7am) and one weekend/month based primarily in the Cardiothoracic ICU. There may be a future possibility of moving to a day schedule, though the current need is on nights.

This surgical program is at the forefront of minimally invasive valve platforms (such as TAVR and advanced heart failure treatments, including ECMO and VADs). Enjoy a great scope of practice in an exciting environment within this award-winning 600+ bed academic medical center (affiliated with Tufts School of Medicine in Boston). You will be impressed with the talented, caring staff, comprehensive facilities, and fully integrated EMR system.

We are offering:

  • Paid relocation to beautiful coastal Maine
  • Secure hospital employment with the state’s largest medical center
  • Interesting inpatient role with leading edge surgical team
  • Schedule that provides an excellent work/life balance
  • Highly competitive salary
  • Paid liability insurance
  • Health, dental, vision, and even pet insurance
  • Paid leave with a budget for your CME
  • Additional paid time off for vacations, etc.
  • Participation in a retirement plan
  • A great opportunity to grow your career!
