Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Advanced Practice Clinician/Nurse Practitioner for the Comprehensive Breast Center (CBC), under the supervision of the Director of the Comprehensive Breast Center, performs diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and renders varied medical services to provide comprehensive patient care.

Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Advanced Practice Clinician/Nurse Practitioner for the Comprehensive Breast Center (CBC), under the supervision of the Director of the Comprehensive Breast Center, performs diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and renders varied medical services to provide comprehensive patient care.
Areas Of Responsibilities
- As part of the Breast Mid-Level/Survivorship practice, oversees management of survivorship, nonĀ surgical high risk, and non-surgical benign breast patients as needed. Elicits a detailed and accurate history and performs an appropriate physical examination on patients in the outpatient setting (Comprehensive Breast Center). Develops an assessment and a therapeutic plan, and renders ongoing patient care based on this plan. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, X-Rays, EKGs, and other diagnostic procedures. Writes prescriptions according to protocols established by the service and in compliance with state and other governing bodies. Follows up test results, informs patients and works with scheduling team to ensure patients present to practice when needed
- Performs other specific procedures including, but not necessarily limited to: draw blood specimen for testing. blood counts, urinalysis. incisions and drainage, wound cultures, administering oxygen, wound care and debridement, routine suturing of lacerations, skin biopsies, starting intravenous solutions, administering intravenous medications, and other therapeutic procedures for which the clinician has received specific supervised training and evaluation.
- Assists with breast oncology patient navigation, across the continuum of care and provides support to patients, families and caregivers during the treatment process. Provides education and resources to patients and families to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality care throughout the cancer continuum, which includes diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
- Coordinates/manages multi-disciplinary breast cancer conference (MDBCC), under direction of the Director of the Comprehensive Breast Center. Maintains and updates weekly patient lists, keeps metrics for accreditation and follows up with MD/providers for clinical follow up as a result of tumor board discussions.
- Participates in the hospital's general tumor board and Commission on Cancer committees as needed per the Director of the Cancer Center.
- Assists breast surgeons/clinical team in the outpatient daily clinical duties within the CBC, including daily practice flow and clinical follow up of existing CBC patients. Assists breast surgeons in the inpatient setting as needed.
- Initiates consultations and refers patient for special testing according to hospital protocols.
- Promotes awareness of clinical trials as they become available in the CBC and the institution. Participates in clinical research as needed/desired.
- Takes appropriate precautions while maintaining patient and staff confidentiality.
- Takes appropriate precautions to ensure patient safety. I I. May perform other duties, as assigned.
- A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
- Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
