Practicing NPs: Support the NP Workforce and Students. Submit Comment to the Dept. of Education Proposed Rule.
Posted 3 days ago in LEGISLATIVE ACTION
Congress recently passed H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, establishing new loan limits for graduate and professional students. The U.S. Department of Education’s proposed rule currently classifies nurse practitioner programs as graduate, not professional, degrees. If finalized, this change could significantly restrict NP students’ access to federal student loans and negatively impact the future nursing workforce.
The Department is accepting public comments through March 2, 2026, and it is critical that nurse practitioners, students, faculty, and supporters speak up. We encourage you to submit a comment urging the Department to recognize NP programs as professional degree programs. Protecting access to education financing is essential to sustaining a strong NP workforce and ensuring continued patient access to care. Add your voice today to support the future of nurse practitioner education and healthcare delivery.
